With new beginnings come so many new opportunities.
Late in the summer, a group of interested parishioners got together to form what has become the Social Justice Committee for St Jude Parish. This past year of innumerable changes and challenges has opened the eyes of many to the opportunities at hand to work more fervently toward a vision for God’s kingdom on earth.
The history of social justice within the Catholic Church runs long and deep. It lives daily in our scripture through the very teachings of Jesus, and weekly in the proclaimed Word. Many of these teachings and exercises have been in the background of our faith practices in recent years as we have dealt with so many other challenges. There are too many daily reminders of injustice in our country that our role as active stewards of our faith can be laid aside any longer. We hope this is resonating with many of you as well.
As this past year has proven, there is much work to be done to bring about God’s kingdom: a kingdom where each and every being is recognized by their intrinsic beauty and value as a child of our Creator, where care and concern for our common Earth is respected and revered, where people can be fed with not only nourishment for the body, but also of the soul, where those affected by oppression, hatred, discrimination, and poverty in their own lands are warmly welcomed into ours with the same loving embrace that our Lord gives us in each moment of every day, and where the imprisoned have been judged fairly, without prejudice or malice, and whose need for love and mercy are as important as those who walk in freedom.
We invite YOU to come along on this journey in any way that you can: to offer yourselves, your ideas, or your good works in order to bring about the fulfillment of God’s Kingdom. Won’t you please join us as we begin anew under the care and guidance of St Jude?
